This installation was inspired by a conversation the artist had with her son while building "bed forts" at home using pillows and blankets, Her son remarked, "Birds and humans build nests to stay warm and safe." The artist was working on building awareness about Domestic Violence at the time and started to think about home and safety through this context. For a victim of Domestic Violence, the home is a dangerous place, far more than the outside world.
Crafted from shimmering metal mesh, the artwork, titled Nests, this installation rises gracefully from the ground, its fluid shapes and intricate patterns interacting harmoniously with the natural surroundings. The metal mesh, though strong and resilient, appears almost weightless as it twists and turns, capturing the essence of movement and transformation. Each curve and contour of the sculpture reflects light in a dazzling display, creating a mesmerizing dance of shadows and highlights that shift with the changing daylight.
Walking around the sculpture, one can see how the intricate design plays with perspective. From different angles, the piece reveals new and unexpected configurations, offering a continually evolving visual experience. The interplay of transparency and solidity within the mesh structure adds layers of depth, symbolizing the complex and multifaceted nature of change.
