THE LIGHT ILLUSION
THE LIGHT ILLUSION
The Light Illusion St Louis Artist Guild 4'x 3' x 2' Handcut paper, 2019
The Light Illusion is an award winning papercut art installation. It received the “Richard Silverman award at the Ann Metzger Memorial National Biennial Exhibition at the St. Louis Artist Guild.
This is an engaging installation that invites the public to move around the space, and realign themselves with what they see in their environment. I specifically placed it in relation to multiple track lights in the ceiling. As viewers enter and walk around the space, they see an abstracted, suspended artwork. The installation consists of multiple sheets of intricately cut paper depicting ripples and reflections. The installation plays with the idea of liquidity to create an illusion of multiple sheets of space elegantly falling through the center, with the surrounding shadows becoming part of the installation.
